pandemic: the things I thought I'd miss (but didn't) and vice versa

It's August already and by now some of us have already gotten a good grasp on what's going on. Perhaps. I wouldn't blame you if you don't feel like it. Personally, I think we are just constantly trying to adapt - there are always, understandably, some highs and lows in it. So when being asked whether I have a certain opinion towards the things people do nowadays, start taking vacations vs staying indoors, and practically any other thing, I'd say I don't have opinions. People right now are just trying to live. We should just let them.

Anyway, yeah, 5 months in and I figured what I thought I would miss, back in March - turned out rather different. I don't know yet what to make of it, but let's see, at the end of this writing I'd probably have a clue.

I thought I'd miss travelling like crazy. I don't. Well, at least so far. I do miss being out in the open, hiking a mountain or jump to the sea - oh I'd scream for a chance to do that now. But it doesn't kill me and I know it is not a necessity. I don't inherently need it. Additionally, my friends know how much I love airports. I adore it. But thinking of travelling by plane anytime soon is not really what I fancy in mind. The stress? Probably. But also because I don't think I'd like seeing an empty airport. Something about airports that are so vibrant and lively - perhaps my melancholic soul don't have the hearts to see it in a completely opposite way.

I thought I'd miss being a busy bee. For this, initially, I didn't. Oh, what a joy to just bask in so much time to read so many books. But then life gets me and I ended up making myself busy still - so.

But I didn't think I'd miss my friends. Strange, huh? Perhaps I was so confident to think I was close enough with my friends that I wouldn't miss them. That we would work out ways to stay connected with each other. But turns out, I do miss them. And the reason I am writing this is I had just returned from a friend's house, after spending almost 4 hours just chatting idly. Returning home, there was, still is, some warm feeling inside my heart - perhaps out of calmness, or surely anything but loneliness, that just bursts in. And at once, I realize how that thing is such a treasure. A connection you have with your friends. It is so funny to have calls after calls in this Zoom era - all with agenda, the more detailed and punctual, the better. I felt like I almost forgot that the true conversation, one that just speaks out directly what's on your mind, that just passes without worrying about time - are truly gold.

So yeah. You know, I think for me, in times of limitations, you'd reconfigure what your priorities in life are. As much as I truly love travelling, mine just so happens to be my friends.
