the best of second-try

I love list. I love music. Here I present you how some covers make it so dear to my heart - I must admit some I love better than the original version or was a beautiful gateway drug to the corresponding artists.

  • Ari-Reda - Here, There, and Everywhere
Kick it with the best cover that, to this day, I am grateful I have discovered. The Beatles' Here, There, and Everywhere is beautiful passage to love and was sung by no-other than Ari-Reda, whose poems recital have shaken me to the core.
  • White Antelope - It Ain't Me Babe

No one in their right minds would question Bob Dylan's song-writing skill. Come on, the man could start a social movement that break a man out of jail with a single song. Now, imagine such power, with a strikingly raw, jarring voice of Pecknold, singing 'Go away from my window, leave at your own chosen speed. I'm not the one you want, babe. I will only let you down.'

I'd shamelessly admit that I cried to this version more than I'm supposed to.
  • Kali Uchis - Venus as a Boy

OK, it'd be straight a crime to have a post about musical covers without mentioning the Youtube-hero in this.. Triple J's Like A Version. Full disclaimer: I don't listen to Bjork and honestly never saw the appeal. I watched her live in Tokyo once and whilst I admire all the beauty, the music just wasn't for me.... until I got to see this.
  • PS22 Chorus - Blue Bucket of Gold

I discovered PS22 Chorus back in my high-school era and honestly it's hard to pinpoint one single favorite. Yet to hear Sufjan Steven's heart-breaking song (to be fair, the whole album is heartbreaking) is sung by a kids' chorus have this appeal of.. sincere, kind sadness, the one that isn't threatening but humbling.. you know what I'm saying.
  • Lianne La Havas - Weird Fishes

We hear bands covering Radiohead's popular song all the time (you'd be lying if you said you've never heard a cover of High & Dry in a public cafe). But, but, what about a jazzy version of Weird Fishes? I kid you not. This is one of the things that define 'I didn't know I needed this' perfectly for me.
  • Demi Lovato - Take Me to Church / Miley Cyrus - Summertime Sadness

I'm not a Disney fan. But no matter what you say, I respect these two women highly for these covers. See it for yourself.
